Assisted Living

There are a few different ways to go about making sure your loved one is in the right place at the right time. Determining the right lifestyle option that fits the needs of your loved one is important. We are here to help you along that path, and answer all the questions you may have.

Assisted living facilities are sought after as alternative forms of residence for individuals  needing supervision and/or assistance with the activities of daily living – ADL, arrangement and coordination of health care provider services outside of the residence, and a continual oversight of daily living to make sure your loved one is safe, healthy, and well cared for 24/7.

Assisted living services became well known and accepted in the 90’s as a continued care alternative for individuals, usually seniors. These facilities have come to bridge the gap between independent living facilities that are unable to provide the kind of attention and services needed, and the 24 hour medical care of a nursing home.

Assisted living facilities are also referred to by many different names such as:

  • Adult foster care
  • Adult homes
  • Adult living care
  • Community based retirement facilities
  • Enhanced care
  • Personal care
  • Residential care
  • Retirement residences
  • Sheltered housing
  • Supported care
  • Board and care
  • Congregate care
  • Adult care home
  • Adult group home
  • Alternative care facility

Assisted Living Services of Florida believes the facility you choose should promote your loved one’s independence and dignity. This is based on the ideals of care, and providing services which enable your loved one to stay as independent as possible while preserving the highest standards of health.

Each state independently regulates and licenses assisted living facilities across the US. With this in mind, assisted living facilities can be found in many different shapes and sizes, some catering to a few residents, while others in the form of communities catering to hundreds.

The kinds of services you find in an assisted living facility should be provided by a 24 hour trained staff. You can expect regular housekeeping duties to be performed including changing sheets, laundry,  meals, and grooming/beauty services. Each facility should have an on call 24 hour a day registered nurse and license practical nurse able to be reached by telephone or email.

An effective and well maintained assisted living facility will make sure medication is taken and/or personal care services are given by a staff member who is trained.

Usually, assisted living residents qualify by needing assistance with an average of three (3) ADLs.

  1. Ability To Move Around
  2. Efficiency In The Bathroom
  3. Ability To Bathe and Dress
  4. Efficiency Of Housekeeping
  5. Ability to Cook And Feed
  6. Ability To Manage Medications
  7. Behavioral Condition
  8. Condition Mentally

If your loved one doesn’t need the intensive medical care a nursing home provides, but needs more friendly personal attention and some help with the day to day activities of living, then an assisted living facility is the right choice.

The facility you choose should provide opportunity for your loved one to participate in regularly scheduled activities that suits their condition.
